Welcome to the world of music-making! Music lessons help you to develop many valuable skills that could be applied to any aspect of life. I would love to help my students discover the joy of music-making that could be achieved through love, hard work and dedication, no matter the level of skill or commitment.

Lessons

Students at all skill levels are welcome. Recommended starting age is Kindergarten or older.

Each lesson is 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length, generally held once a week. 45 minute lessons are strongly recommended for students older than 8 years old. 45 minute lessons are required for students who wish to take the Royal Conservatory Exams; 60 minute lessons are required for level 4 and higher.

Preparation

Practicing consistently each week between lessons is crucial to steady progress. Students are expected to practice and be prepared to play their assignments at their lessons. There may be occasions where instructor will end the lesson early if student is underprepared.

Instrument and Materials

Instrument quality matters, and can greatly accelerate or interfere with progress. Students must have an acoustic piano or full size (88 keys) weighted digital piano at home. When a student progresses to early intermediate levels, acoustic pianos are preferred. Bench (preferably adjustable) must be at a height where the student’s arms could hang at a 90 degree angle on the keys. Foot rests are necessary if a student's feet do not reach the floor.

Recitals

There will be an annual formal recital in the spring semester. Participation is optional, but students are highly encouraged to perform and share what they have worked on throughout the year.

Exams, Festivals and Competitions

For students who are highly committed, there are opportunities to prepare and participate in graded exams, festivals hosted by organizations such as TMTA and DMTA, and competitions.

Cancellations/Make-Up Lessons

Make-up lessons for missed lessons are not guaranteed but may be scheduled if an appropriate time could be found between the teacher and student. If a student is ill but is well enough to have a lesson, a virtual lesson may be selected. Lessons canceled due to the instructor’s illness or emergencies will be made up or tuition will be refunded.

Discontinuation

If a student decides to discontinue lessons for any reason, please give a notice of 30 days.
